 More than one million people are affected. Most of the state is under water. Tabasco Governor Andres Granier has urged anyone who owns a boat to help the rescue operation. Villahermosa and many other townshave been turned into brown lakes with only treetops and roofs visible. The storms have forced the closure of 3of Mexico's oil ports

2006 Feb.25   Mine missing declared dead  There is no chance of survival for 65 miners trapped underground for almost a week
 It had been hoped miners, trapped at 1.25 miles inside the mine, might have survived if air pockets were present. But now Grupo Mexico has told relatives there is no further hope. Tests of air in the mine showed there was not enough oxygen to survive. The men were trapped when a methane explosion brought down debris and cut them off.
2006 Feb.19   Blast traps 66 in mine  In a remote, semi-desert region an explosion ripped through a coal mine two miles underground
 8 miners who had been near the mine's exit were rescued and hospitalized. There were 65 miners trapped throughout the mine, near the town of Sabinas. Rescuers had not been able to make contact with the trapped miners. Grupo Mexico owns the mine. Rescue teams were taking turns removing debris that had clogged the steep shaft.
