Mar.13   San Jose   McClatchy to Buy Knight Ridder for $4.5B
  The second-largest U.S. newspaper publisher will also assume about $2 billion in Knight Ridder's debt
 2nd largest takeover in U.S. newspaper history topped only by the Tribune $6.5 billion acquisition of Times Mirror Co. McClatchy's 32 newspapers would be 2nd nationwide in daily circulation behind Gannett, and rank 4th in revenue. McClatchy CEO G. Pruitt said that all the papers are dominant in their markets and ripe for expansions.
