Nov.30   Istanbul     Pope visits mosque
Benedict XVI is visiting the Blue Mosque in what is being seen as an attempt to mend relations with the Muslim community
During the tour the pontiff paused in silent prayer alongside Muslim clerics in the second papal visit in history to a mosque. Earlier the Pope spent half an hour in Hagia Sophia, that was once a Christian centre before becoming a mosque. Turkish demonstrators protest against the visit, saying the pontiff's tour was an affront to the secularism, as well as an attempt to stake a Catholic claim to the site.
